For a first beach holiday from Russia, our first choice is Sanya on Hainan. Start with Dadonghai if nearby restaurants and Russian-language services matter. For a summer seaside trip, compare Beidaihe, Qingdao and Dalian. Choose Yangshuo for an unhurried landscape holiday or Zhangjiajie for dramatic mountain scenery. Your departure city, travel month and preferred pace should decide the final choice.
Choose your holiday in one minute
These are editorial recommendations based on the type of trip, practical convenience and destination sources. The suggested stays are planning allowances; the seasons are starting points for checking weather and availability.
| Destination | Best fit | When to shortlist it | Suggested stay |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sanya, Hainan | First beach holiday; couples and families | November–April | 7–10 nights |
| Beidaihe | Summer seaside break with a Beijing stop | Summer | 5–7 nights |
| Qingdao | Beach time mixed with city outings | Summer for the sea | 4–6 nights |
| Dalian | Coastal holiday with a choice of city or resort base | Summer | 4–6 nights |
| Yangshuo | Landscapes and a slower countryside pace | Spring or autumn | 3–5 nights |
| Zhangjiajie | Mountain viewpoints and active sightseeing | Spring or autumn | 3–4 full sightseeing days |
Russian-speaking travelers have different budgets and interests. For this selection, we give particular attention to language support, realistic transfers and payment preparation. Only Sanya receives the overall first-beach-holiday recommendation.
1. Sanya: our first choice for a beach holiday
Sanya’s bay areas offer quite different stays. Dadonghai combines a city beach with restaurants and shops nearby; the tourism board also highlights Russian restaurants in the neighborhood. Dadonghai guide, Russian dining in Sanya.
Choose your base before comparing hotel stars:
- Dadonghai: our pick for independent travelers who want to walk out for meals and seek Russian-language help. Ask the hotel which services are actually available in Russian during your stay.
- Yalong Bay: consider it when the hotel and beach will be the center of your trip. The tourism board identifies November–April as its most comfortable period. Yalong Bay.
- Haitang Bay: consider it for a hotel-and-pool holiday. The tourism board warns that its wind and waves can make it unsuitable for swimming. Confirm beach access and pool arrangements with the property. Bay comparison.
For seven nights, keep one hotel base, allow two flexible outing days and protect the remaining time for rest. Check meal plans, child bedding and transfers separately. A sea-view room alone gives little information about whether the beach suits your plans. Follow local swimming flags and closures in every bay.
2. Beidaihe: summer seaside with a Beijing extension
Beidaihe is a coastal option worth comparing when your holiday already includes Beijing. Russian tourism has an established presence: CCTV reported the resumption of Khabarovsk–Beidaihe flights in July 2026. That report describes a seasonal development; confirm bookable flights for your dates. CCTV report.
Our suggested structure is five to seven nights by the sea, with Beijing added only if the total journey remains comfortable. Compare a package’s complete travel time against a self-planned route. A low headline fare can involve several transfers and fewer usable holiday days.
Before booking, confirm the exact beach area, walking access, meal options and the language of any included excursions. Treat Beidaihe as a summer candidate; check current swimming conditions rather than expecting Hainan’s winter beach climate.
3. Qingdao: a city holiday with time by the sea
Qingdao suits travelers who want a varied day outside the hotel. Its municipal visitor guide lists No. 1 Bathing Beach and the Olympic Sailing Center among its coastal attractions. Qingdao’s official seaside guide.
We suggest four to six nights, choosing one accommodation area around the activities that matter most. Alternate a beach day with a city outing instead of collecting distant sights every day. For families, a convenient room layout and a manageable walk to the beach can matter more than an extensive sightseeing list.
If swimming is essential, check the beach’s operating season and current sea conditions. Ask about Russian-language assistance directly; a large city does not guarantee that every hotel offers it.
4. Dalian: decide between a city base and a resort stay
Dalian’s Jinshitan, also called Golden Pebble Beach, is a designated national tourist resort. Its location should be considered separately from a central-city hotel when planning daily travel. Jinshitan’s official introduction.
Choose the city for a mixed itinerary, or prioritize the resort area when the main aim is time near the coast. For four to six nights, one well-chosen base is usually a more relaxing editorial choice than repeated hotel moves.
Travelers departing from eastern Russia should compare the whole route alongside other Chinese coastal options. Check flights actually on sale, airport transfers and arrival times. Confirm the beach surface and access at the specific property if a sandy beach is essential.
5. Yangshuo: a slower holiday among the landscapes
Yangshuo offers karst scenery and access to the Yulong River, with cycling and bamboo-raft experiences highlighted by China’s tourism office. Tourism office introduction.
Our recommendation is three to five nights with just one main activity per day. Decide whether you prefer a countryside setting or easier access to restaurants before choosing accommodation. Keep an unscheduled day so weather changes do not force every outing into one afternoon.
For river activities, confirm the operator’s current age, height and operating requirements before paying, especially with children. A waterside hotel can be a pleasant base even when a particular excursion is unavailable. See our Yangshuo guide for the wider destination.
6. Zhangjiajie: a holiday built around mountain scenery
The sandstone pillars of Wulingyuan are the main reason to choose this destination; the area is on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. UNESCO’s Wulingyuan entry.
Allow three to four full sightseeing days and choose your route around the least mobile person in the group. Ask about the complete day’s walking, stairs, queues and transfers. A cable-car section does not describe the effort required for the whole excursion.
For a restful trip, alternate a longer outing with a lighter day. Confirm the correct attraction, entrance and ticket inclusions before purchase. Our Zhangjiajie guide helps you develop the sightseeing plan.
Flights, payments and entry from Russia
Entry, checked 2026-09-10: eligible Russian ordinary-passport tourism: up to 30 days visa-free, through 31 December 2027. Before departure, check the embassy notice.
Payments: Russian-issued Visa and Mastercard cards face overseas-use restrictions. Check the Visa notice and Mastercard notice. Confirm your particular card and wallet with the issuer and provider; successful card linking alone should not be your payment plan. Prepare a lawful RMB cash backup. China’s official payment guide explains the available methods.
Flight choice: compare the same departure city, dates, luggage and number of nights. Include airport-to-hotel time, meal costs and cancellation terms. For separate tickets, allow enough time for the full connection process and consider an overnight buffer. Check the journey again before paying for accommodation.
Budget comparison: add flights, baggage, transfers, rooms, meals and excursions for your actual party. Convert the total using the currency tool, then check the rate and fees your provider will apply. Keep connectivity preparation on your pre-departure list.
Avoid the full holiday travel window
In 2026, Mid-Autumn falls on September 25–27 and the National Day break on October 1–7. Taking annual leave on September 28–30 can connect them into a 13-day personal break. This is a possible leave scenario, subject to employer approval, with potential extra travel demand between the official holidays.
If your schedule is flexible, plan outside that wider window. Our holiday calendar separates official breaks, possible leave days and adjusted workdays. Check Russian New Year travel dates against current prices too. Official 2027 Chinese holiday arrangements remain pending as of this review.
Two simple holiday plans
- Ten nights focused on the sea: one Sanya bay, seven nights without fixed sightseeing, two optional outing days and one flexible day. Add international travel time separately.
- Ten nights with a city and the sea: three nights in Beijing, six in Beidaihe and one buffer night positioned around your confirmed return journey. Check transfer availability before committing.
For a mountain holiday, build the trip around Yangshuo or Zhangjiajie first. Add another region only when the connections leave enough time for rest. If you need help balancing dates and transfers, use our individual itinerary planning service.
